Based in Oslo Silje Kjørholt (b. 1990, Norway) works with clay in sculptural expressions and performance. At the core of her practice is the connection between the body and the ground. Sometimes using clay as a proxy for her own body, she traces experiences where physical and emotional gravity meld together.
For her the duality of clay as a safe and fatal force in the landscape, mirrors the intimate bonds between people. In her work she is inspired by quick clay landslides, adobe house building and ancient pottery. Oftentimes using local clay sourced through friends and collegues to affirm the commonplace of her chosen material.
